In 1956,
W.B. and Grace Simmons had an idea to build a camp in the upstate of
South Carolina. The idea was taken to the Greenville and North
Greenville Baptist Associations. A year later, the dream began to
become a reality. Then, two very difficult years of planning and building
took place.
In 1959,
the first camping season opened. Soon afterwards, the Greer
Association also came in on the ownership of the camp, forming the
tri-associational ministry.
In
addition to summer camp, the facility is used year-round for retreats and
conferences. Camp Marietta is becoming known as the Camp of the South.
Currently, we have campers from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia,
Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Louisiana, and New York.
For over
50 years, Camp Marietta has been not only training and equipping campers
and students, but also training up pastors, missionaries, and teachers
that are now scattered around the world.
